The skin is the largest organ of the body, it is made up of two layers : The Epidermis and The Dermis. The skin functions as a protective barrier, it regulates body temperature, prevents mechanical trauma and protects against the sun, it is also a sensory organ.

In view of the important role the skin plays, it is clear that we should look after our skin.

At Enigma Pharmaceuticals, we have various skin treatment products that we promote and market in Nigeria as the sole agents for Stiefel Laboratories, one of the biggest dermatological companies in the world. The products and their uses are as follows:

1. Panoxyl acnegel 5% & 10%
   Panoxyl Acnegel 5% & 10% are each indicated for use in the topical treatment of Acne vulgaris. They contain Benzoyl Peroxide which provides control of acne through its antibacterial action and also has a drying and desquamative effect, enhanced by the gel base.It is particularly useful in mild to moderate acne characterized by comedones, papules and pustules. Panoxyl reduces both the non-inflamed (comedones) and inflamed (papules & pustules) lesions of mild to moderate Acne.

2. Oilatum Cream
   Oilatum Cream is indicated in the treatment of eczema and dry skin conditions. It is designed for the management of infantile dry skin and atopic eczema. Oilatum cream can be rubbed into affected areas at any time between bathing, to soothe itching and protect the skin.

3. Duofilm
   Duofilm is almost colourless, clear, mobile liquid supplied in an amber screw capped bottle, internally fitted with a brush applicator.  Duofilm is a collodion based product containing:

• Salicylic acid BP 16.70%

• Lactic acid BP 16.70 %

4. Oilatum Emollient 250ml
   Oilatum Emollient soothes, moisturizes and conditions the skin, at the same time cleansing it. Because it is used in the bath, it is the ideal choice for all-over treatment.
   
   Oilatum contains a carefully balanced formulation with a very low potential for sensitizing or irritant reactions, and is suitable even for babies.

5. Polytar 150ml & 250ml
   In mild cases of dandruff, an ordinary anti-dandruff or medicated shampoo may resolve the problem. However, in more severe cases, and in seborrhoeic dermatitis and scalp psoriasis, something more effective is needed, and you should choose a tar-based treatment such as Polytar Liquid.
   
   Tars work in a number of ways to improve the condition. Firstly, they soften the scales, allowing them to break down into smaller pieces which are easier to remove and less noticeable. They also relieve irritation and itching. And, because tars are antiseptic, they fight any infection which may penetrate the scalp if it is broken. In psoriasis, tar also works to slow down the rate of skin cell growth to a more normal level. 
   
   Polytar also has a mild anti-fungal action which reduces the high level of pityrosporum ovale present on the scalps of dandruff and seborrhoeic dermatitis sufferers.
   
   As well as tars, Polytar Liquid contains oils to moisturize the scalp. It is pleasant-smelling and easy to use, and leaves the hair clean and manageable.

8. Ulcesep Omeprazole
   The Omeprazole acts by inhibiting the hidrogenion bomb in the gastric parietal cell. This way reduces the secretion of gastric acid through a mechanism of new action. Acts rapidly and produces a reversible control of the acid secretion of the stomach with only one daily dose.

9. Insup Enalaprile
   Enalapril Maleate is indicated in the treatment of all grades of high blood-pressure and in renovascular hypertension. It can be used as initial treatment by itself or together with other anti-hypertensive agents, especially diuretics.  Enalapril Maleate also is indicated in the treatment of congestive heart failure.

10. Cardionil Isosorbide Mononitrate
    CARDIONIL 20 mg is presented as capsules for oral administration, in packages containing 30 or 60 capsules. It is a medicine that belongs to the group of nitrates and is indicated for the preventive treatment of angina pectoris.
    
    The angina pectoris is a consequence of the imbalance between the oxygen needs of the cardiac muscle and the quantity of oxygen contributed to this muscle by the blood that steams in the coronary arteries.
    
    The nitrates and among of them the isosorbide 5-mononitrate, that has a prolonged action:

    1. consequently reduces to the work of the heart and the oxygen needs of the cardiac muscle;

    2. increases to the arrival of oxygen to this muscle by exerting a powerful action of the coronary arteries.

    This medicine is used for prophylaxis and treatment of angina pectoris.

11. Fluoxetine Alacan
    Fluoxetine Alacan is indicated for the treatment of depression and anxiety related as well as for bulimia nervosa and treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorders.
