Isosorbide Mononitrate
The active
ingredient in CARDIONIL 20mg is Isosorbide-5-mononitrate.
Each capsule contains Isosorbide-5-mononitrate 20mg (DCI)

WHAT
CARDIONIL 20mg IS and FOR WHAT PURPOSE IS PRESCRIBED:
CARDIONIL 20 mg is
presented as capsules for oral administration, in
packages containing 30 or 60 capsules. It is a medicine
that belongs to the group of nitrates and is indicated
for the preventive treatment of angina pectoris.
The angina pectoris is a
consequence of the imbalance between the oxygen needs of
the cardiac muscle and the quantity of oxygen
contributed to this muscle by the blood that steams in
the coronary arteries.
The nitrates and among of
them the isosorbide 5-mononitrate, that has a prolonged
action:

consequently
reduces to the work of the heart and the oxygen
needs of the cardiac muscle;

increases to the
arrival of oxygen to this muscle by exerting a
powerful action of the coronary arteries.
This medicine is used for
prophylaxis and treatment of angina pectoris.

BEFORE
TAKING CARDIONIL 20 mg (Do not take CARDIONIL 20 mg):
-
If you
have hypersensitivity to any of the components of
the product.
-
If you
have serious cardiovascular pathology (shock,
collapse, serious hypotension, certain types of
myocardium infarct) nor in case of marked anaemia,
cerebral traumatism or cerebral haemorrhage
-
If you
are pregnant or in lactation period. You should not
take it during the first trimester of the pregnancy
except prescribed by your doctor. It is not known if
the medicine can be transferred to maternal milk.

The
simultaneous administration of CARDIONIL and some
antihypertension medications and phenothiazine can
increase the reducing effect of the arterial
pressure, mainly in people advanced in years.
Special
precautions with CARDIONIL 20mg:
-
Do not
take alcohol during the treatment, since it can
diminish the reaction capacity.

Inform
your doctor of all your present and past problems
and of any hypersensitivity that you undergo.

CARDIONIL is not indicated for children.
Pregnancy
You
should not take it during the first trimester of the
pregnancy except prescribed by your doctor.
Lactation
It is
not known if the medicine can be transferred to
maternal milk.
People
advanced in years
It is
advisable to realize the administration to seated
patient.
Children
CARDIONIL is not indicated for children.

DIRECTIONS
FOR USE
Follow these instructions
unless your doctor has given you others. Remember
taking the medicine. Your doctor will advise of duration
of therapy with CARDIONIL. Do not interrupt
therapy sooner sooner otherwise desired effect will not
be achieved.
Do not continue treatment beyond period prescribed by
your doctor. It will have to respect strictly the dosage
without diminishing nor increasing it except by the
instruction of your doctor. The posology of
isosorbide 5-mononitrate is strictly individual and your
doctor has recommended you the one that is considered
more suitable. The most usual dose is two capsules/day.
In order to avoid the tolerance to the medicine, the
administration will be made on irregular intervals
between 7 and 17 hours.
It is possible that your doctor prescribes this medicine
to you in progressivel increasing doses until reaching
the most effective and better tolerated one in your
individual case. It is advisable, mainly at the
beginning of the treatment, when high doses are used or
in people advanced in years that the administration of
the medicine is realized to a seated patient The
CARDIONIL capsules have to be taken whole with a glass
of water. Your doctor will indicate the duration of the
treatment with CARDIONIL 20mg
If you take more CARDIONIL 20mg than required:
immediately contact your doctor or pharmacist. In
case of overdose or incidental ingestion, call the local
poison control centre. The main symptom that could
appear is a reduction of the arterial pressure. In order
to correct it, usually it is enough with maintaining the
patient seated with legs raised up. In any case, consult
your doctor immediately: it can be necessary to wash the
stomach or to get treatment in a specialized centre.
If you forgot to take CARDIONIL 20mg: do not take a
double dose to compensate forgotten doses. As soon as
you are conscious of the forgetfulness, continue with
treatment, administering the medicine like usual.

POTENTIAL ADVERSE EFFECTS
Like any other medicine,
adverse effects may occur during the treatment with
CARDIONIL
In general isosorbide-5-mononitrate is suitably
tolerated. In certain cases, especially with high doses
or at the beginning of the treatment, there can be a
reduction of the arterial pressure related to the change
of position (getting up, standing on ones foot)
Other secondary effects that can appear are headache,
reddening or local heat sensation, palpitations,
nauseas, fatigue, this will usually slow down by
continuing the treatment or diminishing the dose.
In rare cases, cutaneous eruptions could take place. If
any other adverse reaction previously not described is
observed, see your doctor or pharmacist.
